Gaming Machine

It’s been a while since my last post. WoW has been pretty slow lately. We’re still struggling with recruiting as a 25 man group, but hoping to get back into the hard mode game this week–if only we could get a full raid.

In the meantime, I’ve been playing SWTOR quite a bit–a few of us have. It’s fun, but my laptop was really struggling, which was part of the catalyst propelling me to convince my wife that a new computer was in order. I had to sacrifice my laptop to do it, and various other things that I don’t need to go into here, but everything arrived from NewEgg yesterday afternoon, and I got busy putting it all together as soon as I got home from work. It is not uber-top-of-the-line as I do have to pay for this stuff, but I’m very happy with my selections.

Here’s the list of parts:

Case: COOLER MASTER HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN1-GP Black Steel + Plastic and Mesh Bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty P67 Performance LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core i5-2400 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
CPU Cooler: CORSAIR H80 (CWCH80) High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
RAM: 2 x G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W Modular
SSD: Enhanced Chronos MKNSSDCR120GB 2.5″ 120GB SATA III MLC
HDD: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5″
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Mouse: RAZER Naga Black
Keyboard: Microsoft SIDEWINDER X4
DVD: ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner

All said and done a price tag just short of $1500, including Win7, various cables, etc.

I do not have any advanced bench-marking tools, but it performed very well on the Windows Index, lowest was the i5 at 7.4. Everything else was 7.8. I have not been able to test is much yet, as by 2.30 this morning I was loading software and had to get to bed. I can’t wait to see how this beast handles SWTOR and D3 (when it comes out).

Here are a couple shots I snapped on my phone. Look for more updates in the next couple days.
